Colour

 Although I particularly prefer

 black & white photography,

colour allows us to render an

 unparalleled level of nuance and

 adds vibrancy to images of

 everyday life.

 The rapid maturing of digital

cameras has ushered in a new

era in photography. All of a

 sudden we can  try out

 techniques previously

 considered esoteric. Its creative

 possibilities are immense but in

 the digital avalanche we have

little, if any training in colour

theory. This is a pity, since

 unless we understand  the

 physiological as well as

 psychological basis of formal

colour theory, it is hard to

 understand why some

 photographs work and some

don't, except on a 'gut feel'

 basis.

 After four years of running

around with my digital, I am now

beginning to learn the use of

formal colour theory. I hope this

will have a positive effect  in my

 future colour photographs.
